Ancillary Services

Additional services provided alongside investment services, such as safekeeping of financial instruments, foreign exchange services connected to transactions, or investment research.

APPROPRIATENESS ASSESSMENT

An evaluation conducted to determine whether a service or product is appropriate for a client.

Ask Price

The price at which a financial instrument may be purchased.

Best Execution

The regulatory obligation requiring an investment firm to take all sufficient steps to obtain the best possible result for clients when executing orders, considering price, cost, speed, likelihood of execution and settlement, size, and nature of the order.

Bid Price

The price at which a financial instrument may be sold.

Clearing

The process of reconciling and confirming trade details prior to settlement.

Client Categorisation

The classification of clients as Retail, Professional, or Eligible Counterparty in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Conflict of Interest

A situation where the firm’s interests may conflict with those of a client, requiring appropriate mitigation measures.

Contract for Difference (CFD)

A cash-settled derivative contract whereby the parties exchange the difference between the opening and closing price of an underlying instrument without transferring ownership of the underlying asset.

Counterparty Risk

The risk that a contractual counterparty may fail to fulfil its financial obligations.

Custody / Safekeeping

The holding and administration of financial instruments on behalf of clients.

Derivative

A financial instrument whose value is derived from the price or performance of an underlying instrument.

E

Eligible Counterparty

A client classification typically applied to regulated financial institutions and entities with advanced market experience.

Execution

The completion of a client order in accordance with the firm’s Order Execution Policy.

Execution Venue

A regulated market, MTF, OTF, or liquidity provider where client orders may be executed.

Financial Instrument

Assets defined under applicable legislation, including transferable securities, derivatives, money-market instruments, and units in collective investment undertakings.

Hedging

A risk management technique involving offsetting positions to reduce exposure to market risk.

I

Initial Margin

The amount of collateral required to open a leveraged position.

Investment Advice

The provision of personal recommendations to a client regarding transactions in financial instruments.

Investor Compensation Fund (ICF)

A statutory fund designed to compensate eligible clients if an investment firm fails to meet its obligations.

Know Your Client (KYC)

Procedures conducted to verify a client’s identity and assess suitability or appropriateness before providing services.

Leverage

The use of margin to obtain exposure to a notional position value greater than the capital committed.

Liquidity

The degree to which a financial instrument can be transacted without materially affecting its market price.

Liquidity Provider

A financial institution or entity that supplies executable prices in financial instruments.

Long Exposure

Market exposure that benefits from upward price movements in the underlying instrument.

Maintenance Margin

The minimum equity required to maintain open leveraged positions.

Margin Call

A notification triggered when account equity approaches or falls below required maintenance levels.

Margin Level

The ratio of account equity to used margin, expressed as a percentage.

Margin Requirement

The minimum collateral required to open and maintain a leveraged position.

MiFID II

Directive 2014/65/EU governing the provision of investment services across the European Union.

Negative Balance Protection

A safeguard ensuring retail clients’ losses do not exceed the total funds held in their account, where applicable.

Notional Value

The total exposure controlled by a leveraged position.

Order Execution

The process by which a client’s instruction to buy or sell a financial instrument is completed.

P

Professional Client

A client classified as having the expertise and experience to make investment decisions and assess associated risks independently.

R

Reception and Transmission of Orders (RTO)

The service of receiving client orders and transmitting them to another entity for execution.

Retail Client

A client afforded the highest level of regulatory protection under applicable law.

S

Segregation of Funds

The practice of holding client funds separately from the firm’s own funds in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Settlement

The finalisation of a transaction through the transfer of funds and/or financial instruments.

Short Exposure

Market exposure that benefits from downward price movements in the underlying instrument.

Slippage

The deviation between the requested execution price and the price at which the order is executed.

Spread

The difference between the bid and ask price of a financial instrument.

Stop-Out Level

A predefined margin threshold at which open positions may be automatically closed.

Swap / Financing Charge

A debit or credit applied to positions held overnight reflecting financing costs.

Transparency

Regulatory requirements relating to disclosure of costs, charges, and execution practices.

U

Underlying Instrument

The financial instrument from which a derivative derives its value.

V

Volatility

A statistical measure of the magnitude and frequency of price movements over time.
